Three great insights on maintaining resilience:
By Andrea Petersen in the the Wall Street Journal
Because we are physically distant, we need to be empathetically close.
Listen more deeply, pay more attention to emotional nuances, even over screens. Realize that other people are scared – they may be worried about their mother in a nursing home, or a daughter who’s an ICU nurse.
That last one hit close to home, as you regular readers know. My daughter is an ICU nurse dealing with COVID patients. Maintaining resilience is a crucial part of how she is able to get up every morning and counsel a family on the need to let go of a loved one or handle it personally when dealing with a mother who is 30 weeks pregnant and has to be put on a ventilator. Everybody’s got a story that will break your heart – your job is to be willing to listen to it.
