- 99% engagement from 600 students in three undergraduate biology classes.
- Exams scores increased by 10%.
- Course failures were cut by 80% from previous results.
Historically, these same courses had engagement scores of 49%. (That’s more like the numbers I remember from those classes). The educational classroom has not changed much over the last 100 years. Now online learning tools that are used in the classroom (and outside the classroom) have increased results dramatically. An added benefit is that shy students who may have held back in a classroom situation were enabled to participate. Material that was missed or not understood could be reviewed later. The results were reported in Pandodaily, based on a study by one professor at the University of Ottawa.
The End of College
This is an example of what is essential for the future of education in the schools and also training in corporations. The number one best-selling book on Amazon is The End of College; Creating the Future of Learning and the University Everywhere, by Kevin Carey, effectively argues for a new world order in how we learn. In Carey’s book, he argues that the changes need to be even more dramatic for all but the highest prestige colleges to survive in their current form. The opportunity for education to be much more effective and efficient is clearly emerging.
The Beginning of Life-Long Learning
Online learning is proving to work better than classroom lectures, is more suited to our dynamic schedules, and more cost-effective. The same opportunities are available to us as individuals. I am able to take college courses while on my treadmill using my iPad or computer. I do not need college credits, but for those that do … more and more schools are providing that option.
The demands of successful businesses are such that we will need to accelerate our rate of learning in a cost-effective way. Working 10% harder is no longer the answer for most of us. We need to multiply our effectiveness. We are excited at Change Masters Academy to be building several video and audio programs to extend our success in the coaching room to a broad global audience.
