Internal authenticity is meaning what you say. External authenticity is saying what you mean.
Authenticity in leadership is achieved, in part, by managing yourself more effectively moment by moment. Your perceived authenticity is also impacted by how aware you are of Change Masters’ Decade Shift. What you mean to communicate may not be what others interpret if you’re not aware of your impact. That’s why our motto at Change Masters is “We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behaviors.”
Our Decade Shift concept evolved from the fact that at different times in our careers, different skills are needed or expected. Our observation, based on 25 plus years of coaching, is that expectations shift roughly every decade. Your ability to adjust to the constantly varying characteristics and expectations an organization has for you, based on your experience level and chronological age, is one way you’re assessed.
Our Decade Shift Profile represents a communication road map you can use to track changes in your career. The same behaviors we accept from a 25 year old we won’t accept from someone who is 35 or 45 years old. You are now the person your employees talk about at the dinner table, and the rules have changed.
You can read more about this in our book; Seeing Yourself As Others Do – Authentic Executive Presence At Any Stage Of Your Career.
